Hope Church

In the last few days the stories, press conferences, and fears have continued to grow over a sickness that threatens our nation.  And now the story has turned from an international curiosity to a local concern causing a rush to doctors and emergency rooms.  In an effort to stem the growing wave of infection schools have been closed and events have been canceled.  While there are calls for calm there is an undercurrent of fear that idles quietly beneath, feed by the ongoing alerts and news stories.  Questions abound about the causes and cures.  And there is little hope offered other than just to hang on, stay away, and wait it out.

While this crisis comes to a boil, I fear that there is a greater epidemic that lingers among us. In fact it is a sickness that infects us all.  No one escapes.  What is worse is that every reported case has proved fatal.  But before death overwhelms its victims, it wrecks each carrier's life and family.  What is more insidious is that there is very little discussion or honest confrontation of it.  And one of the most dangerous symptoms is a blindness and denial of the disease itself, rendering the person's mind unable and unwilling to deal with the reality around them.  So this killer roars forward taking, ravaging
and killing while a blissful silence hums on.

What plague I'm I talking about?  Black Death? AIDS? Malaria?  No, it's far worse, more deadly, and deeper entangled in humanity.  What I am talking about it, Sin.
